Many have been waiting ” with baited breath” for the opening of the new cycle/pedestrian/bridle way bridge over the A38 at Stover/Heathfield. This was originally planned for the end of the last financial year, but I’m delighted to be able to say that I have now heard it’s due to be officially opened on Saturday 18th July. This is welcome news, as many have been asking me about progress. It will mean that cyclists ( and others ) will no longer need to take their lives in their hands as they sprint across this major road from the Teigngrace Road to Heathfield.
Access to the new bridge is via a bridle path on what is currently Sibelco land ( which will become Devon Wildlife Trust in due course) and the route also touches Summer Lane.
A Press Release is due shortly, and I will be happy to forward that to any who contact me.
I look forward to using the bridge myself in the near future.
I look forward to using the new bridge, but not, I hope, with my breath “baited”. “Baited breath”? Baited with what, and to catch what? The correct expression is “bated breath”, an abbreviation of “abated” meaning weakened, lessened, reduced. Still, whatever, yoof don’t need no education.
I stand corrected…..and bow to the superior education….youf today eh?
I always thought baited in the context I used it, was ” in anticipation of”; baited being prepared and waiting for….waiting to use, waiting to see etc…..
