Tad Frustrating…Absent Councillor Claims the Cash, Does No Work…

by admin on 24 May, 2016

This morning ( it is not yet 11 am) I have dealt with 5 case work issues which fall in the Newton Abbot North ward of our absent Conservative councillor, the dishonourable member for Roscoff. Some of these issues come to me via the exceptionally conscientious and hard working District Councillor for Bushell Ward, Jackie Brodie, to whom many local residents are turning in the absence of proper representation at County level. The issues raised are the traffic lights which are out at Jetty Marsh/West Golds Roundabout; the large “sinking” pothole in Forde Close; green bin collection failure in Knowles Hill Road; tree grills around trees in The Avenue and flooding at Sandford Orleigh. I am very happy to attempt to deal with anyone’s problems from anywhere, and do get calls from all over Devon. I of course have my own ward to look after, and that produces quite a significant casework load in it’s own right. I always welcome residents contact; it is one of the more rewarding aspects of the job. What irritates however is the sheer arrogance and contempt being shown to the electorate this absent councillor is supposed to represent. She is perfectly prepared to go on collecting £10,000 plus a year, yet apparently does little or nothing to justify that sum….. or indeed any sum! Her attendance at meetings is, not surprisingly, derisory and yet she and her Conservative colleagues appear quite prepared to allow this situation to continue. The honourable and right thing to have done would be resignation but that would have meant sacrificing the freebie ride on the gravy train. One can only hope that come the next round of elections in 12 months time that the electorate of Newton Abbot North will reject her party out of hand as being untrustworthy of the position, and elect someone who is both keen and able to do the job properly.
