I had a message this morning. It went something like this….”Are you Mr Hook…the Lib Dem Cllr?”
“Yes”, says I, “Can I help?”
“Well, it’s just that you usually call on us at an election and you haven’t been yet. I was hoping you’d come and give me and my neighbour a poster to put in the window”.
“Thank you, ” says I, “Where do you live; I’ll be round”.
The point of that is two fold.
I very much enjoy calling on residents, both at election time and indeed any time year round. However, I have almost 11,000 voters in my Newton Abbot South Division and it just isn’t feasible or physically practical to call on all those doors….a % yes, but no one could actually get everywhere, with the best will in the world, in the time available. So, if you want me to call on you and I haven’t yet done so, please let me know and I will be there at a mutually convenient time. Similarly, if you want to display a poster declaring your support, then please please let me know. I’d be only too pleased to oblige.

PS I still haven’t worked out why some people, professing undying allegiance and huge enthusiasm readily take a poster, in some cases actually ask for one, and then it doesn’t appear in their window…beyond me and just a tad frustrating as they do have a cost, and we are not as wealthy as the other main parties. Publicity and name recognition is all good and posters help to that end…so if you want one, and are neither afraid nor shy of displaying your support to the public…just get in touch. If you have one and haven’t yet put it up….either please do so or let me know, perhaps anonymously, what your thinking is? I really would like to know…..yes, really…
