Not for the first time in my life, indeed not for the first time this month, I have set the smoke alarm off in my house. The trouble with me is that I tend to get engrossed in work upstairs ( currently, and for the last x number of months that has largely been election focused activity) and “forget” that I am cooking a meal downstairs…easily done of course!
So, for the second time in a little over a fortnight the potatoes have boiled dry and the alarm has gone off. ( apologies to the neighbours!) Fortunately, it’s a very piercing alarm and makes a noise to wake the dead and no harm done ( except to the potatoes and the saucepan they were boiling in of course)
General warning to one and all…get an effective and functioning alarm; test it regularly ( I obviously do) and if you ever invite me to cook for you, get plenty of potatoes in!
Good sound advice for everyone’s home. Smoke alarms are a modern essential and, yes, they do need to be tested from time to time!
