Newton Abbot Lib Dems held a celebration “Thank You” Buffet last evening at a packed Market Square. The buffet was held to celebrate the 3 stunning council election victories achieved by the local party on May 4th.
The victors, Rob Hayes (Teignbridge Bushell), Jackie Brodie (Devon County. Newton Abbot North) and yours truly in Newton Abbot South all gave brief speeches of thanks to the local army of helpers, many of whom had not taken part in election campaigns previously. In addition, new Parliamentary Candidate Marie Chadwick spoke optimistically of her hopes for Westminster success, and the need for a strong local voice in Parliament, which she was determined to provide.
The speeches ended with a surprise (?) announcement from myself to the apparent delight of those present. I have asked Jackie Brodie to marry me and she has agreed. Constituency Chair, Martin Wrigley, immediately proposed a toast and we were surrounded by a mass of hand shaking, congratulatory friends. A happy and memorable evening.

I am indeed very fortunate to have found such a kindred spirit to share my life with, who knows me, understands me and is still prepared to take me on!
