Racism is Wrong

by admin on 11 July, 2017

To make judgments about someone…anyone…based on the colour of their skin or their ethnicity is simply fundamentally wrong. If you must judge, then do so on the content of  the individuals character, not on colour or religon or sexuality or gender. To use language of the racist is wrong and should be condemned instantly and unequivocally by all. Those holding positions of responsibility in our land have been given certain privileges. With those privileges come responsibilities, and one of those responsibilities is to lead by example; by word and by deed.
Newton Abbot’s Conservative MP, Mrs Morris, has been found out using racist language, as was her partner, the Conservative party agent at the recent General Election. Using racist language is evidence surely of racist views and the Prime Minister has been right to condemn our MP.
I seek a world where not only are all men and women created equal, but have equal opportunities in life to provide for themselves and their families. While racism in any shape or form continues to exist ( and it most certainly does!) then all right minded people must come together to eliminate it. Legislation is of course one way in which a negative situation can be improved, but legislation cannot change the condition of a man’s heart. It needs education and a fundamental change of attitude and outlook.
IMO Mrs Morris is clearly unfit to represent anyone and she should do the honourable thing and resign her parliamentary seat. She won’t do that of course, for various reasons.
Meanwhile, I am trying as Leader of the Opposition at Teignbridge Council to get agreement for a debate and or questioning in committee which would enable the Council to vigourously condemn racism. Teignbridge Council needs to be seen to condemn the unacceptable stance adopted by the local MP. I hope that the Chair of the TDC O and S committee will agree to my request, so that all councillors can unite in criticism.
I give no ground to racism, prejudice or bigotry in any form. It’s wishful thinking, I know, but there are certain words, and those are three, which I want eliminated from the dictionary. Eliminated, not by passing a law banning them, but because they have become obsolete and no longer carry meaning. Will all councillors join me? Please ask yours where they stand on this critical issue.
