PEN INN SHAMBLES

by admin on 19 September, 2017

I have this morning written to various officers at Teignbridge, including Head of Service Phil Shears, appealing for a resolution to the shambolic mess that is Pen Inn and environs.
The problems of litter, graffiti( some of it obscene, some just a scruffy mess) which has actually been encouraged by a senior Conservative Councillor!, of over grown vegetation and cracked paving stones are the responsibility of various bodies, and I don’t exclude the public in that.
GallifordTry, who built the SDH, are almost certainly responsible for at least some of the cracked paving stones, but DCC and TDC share some of the other problems. The fiasco of the wildflower meadow shames everyone. The only thing about the meadow is that it is certainly”wild”.
I have appealed to Teignbridge officers to attempt to coordinate a major “clean up” exercise. Power washing would help the graffiti problem and I was promised this; more frequent litter picking would not go amiss, a radical re think on the wild flower meadow ( which I would love to see) is urgently needed, and a general maintenance programme adopted asap.
I will report back, as necessary.

This area was promised to be turned into a pleasant amenity by GT and the councils when the Horrible Highway was being publicised & planned. As its present condition mainly affects the residents of Buckland, I won’t hold my breath for any decent consideration by GT, TDC or DCC. Time and again, officers of both councils have silently sneered and scoffed at requests for decent remedial interventions all over Buckland. There seems to be no interest in the area, unless it is to progressively allow it to deteriorate into a ghetto.

I actually receive far more negative comments from Milber residents than Buckland ones, but where comment originates is irrelevant; the whole area is a disgrace.
Graffiti clearance is scheduled “within days” and for all I know may already have been undertaken. I have promises ( yes OK, Promises, Promises…..but I can only keep trying) that the mess of weeds and over grown areas will be tidied “shortly”. An improved litter clearance regime is also being planned.I have various reassurances this week from Phil Shears TDC Head of Service and I will be holding him to them. I am confident that under Phils instruction things will improve. Here’s hoping……suggestions from Conservative Cllre who do not represent the area, that graffiti should be encouraged were not in the least helpful.
