SUCCESS. Average Speed cameras Coming for SDH!

by admin on 12 September, 2018

Long suffering Aller residents who have endured increased levels of noise and air pollution as a direct consequence of the new South Devon Highway, may be in for some much-needed relief, as a consequence of a final decision made today at Devon County Council. Average Speed Cameras will be placed along the length of the new road in an attempt to make drivers keep within the adopted speed limit. Currently, the limit is regularly abused probably, it is suggested, more than any other road in Devon.  Residents are living with a huge noise problem, produced by the excessive speed of vehicles outside their homes. Lower speeds may also improve the safety record of this road.
This summer many have endured unacceptable heat as they fear to open the windows of rooms bordering the road. Stress, depression, sleep deprivation are just some of the medical conditions experienced by residents of Addison, St Lukes and Aller Park Road, as a direct consequence of the new road.
I have also requested additional tree planting as a means of absorbing noise and airborne pollutants. This should have happened when the road was built; it wasn’t, so let’s try and put it right now. Both local councillors, Cllr Alistair Dewhirst and I, spoke strongly in favour of the action that has been accepted.
I would welcome hearing of your experiences, if living adjacent to the SDH.

I’m pleased to read your comment about the tree-planting that Galliford (didn’t)Try promised. I still have the long pull-out plan they sent around, with DCC, and “mature trees” are shown, as well as the miserable little twigs and bijou shrublets they stuck in the ground here and there. Big Bizniss rules OK, in its own way, just as it wants.
