Labour Party; Take Your Pick….

by admin on 25 September, 2018

No one will be surprised that I have watched with considerable interest the twisting and turning going on within both the Conservative and Labour Parties over Brexit. I really don’t understand how either party can survive in their current forms. The Conservative Party has always been split over Europe, but they have consistently avoided lancing the boil, and have always put the survival of their party above the national interest. In so doing they are the architects of their own disarray. How can they possibly sit down again together? They stretch from those on the one hand who are no more than UKIP nasties to the other end of the spectrum, with a growing group of Remainers advocating a Peoples Vote on the final outcome of the negotiations ( which ofcourse they can’t come up with yet, as no one can agree what that is going to be)
Turning to the Labour Party, you can, of course, take your pick as it appears all of their main players are saying something different. A consistent line they don’t have, only a consistently changing stance. Within 24 hours we have some saying “yes” to a Peoples Vote ( 3rd referendum) while some say “no” and others, including their “leader” saying let’s wait and see which way the wind blows, and if enough say X, then well, that will be what I go with, even if it isn’t what I have stood for all these long months. ( “but I’m so desperate to be PM, so right now I’ll say anything you want”)If I read it right, and I think I do, others are saying they would give the country a vote for or against alternatives neither of which they want…..confused? Perhaps that’s the tactic, so that at the end of the day they can claim they always said that…..!!??!!
Only one party has been consistent throughout. Irrespective for a moment if you are a Leaver, a Remainer or a Don’t Know, you would have to agree that on the biggest issue this country has faced in at least 70 years the Liberal Democrats have held a consistent line ( and OK, I should include the Greens in that, which I’m happy to do) which is rather different to the various positions being adopted by the two ugly sisters, and which seem to change with virtually every news broadcast.
