Dog Ban Overturned?

by admin on 20 November, 2018

The Lib Dems led an attack on the proposals from the Conservative administration at Teignbridge yesterday and successfully challenged the new restrictions on dogs. The Executive will now have to reconsider the number of dogs that can be walked at any one time ( the original proposal was 4 but this has been raised to 6, based on insurance companies recommendations) and the months in which dogs will not be allowed on local beaches has also been recommended to revert to the original May to September. A review group on “dog legislation” is to be created. The vote was 16 – 8 to refer the various issues back to the Executive for reconsideration. A large number of the public wrote into the council and to councillors, and many also attended the meeting. I applaud their engagement.
The problems with dogs isn’t the dogs at all, but irresponsible dog owners who fail to control their pets. Teignbridge has 3 wardens to monitor the whole of Teignbridge. I suggested that perhaps enthusiastic volunteers could be trained to assist the existing wardens, adding more eyes in the search for offenders. Responsible owners would have nothing to fear from such a proposal, only the irresponsible. Surely a “win win”?
