Huge thanks to all those responsible for last evenings Avenue Church Christmas Ball, held at the Buckland Football Club clubhouse. Mark Clarvis for the overall organisation, Bob Francis for his annual quiz, Malcolm Benton for inviting Jackie and me and having us on his table, all the staff at the club who prepared and presented the meal, the Orchestra who introduced the evening with carol singing ( thanks for having “Away in a Manger”, my personal favourite, though I accept it’s almost certainly theologically unsound) and any others I’ve failed to mention….but a particular WOW to Elvis impersonator and former Sixth Form College student of mine, Mark Wright. Mark, you may have been a “challenging” student back in the day, but never forget I gave you your first stage break and you’ve never looked back! I’m certain all those attending last night ( and the venue was packed to the rafters) will agree with me that you put on a quite outstanding performance, worthy of a much wider audience. Brilliant entertainment all round. Many many thanks therefore to all concerned. !
