Liberal Democrat District Councillor for Buckland and Milber Learn more

Various plans are being made to do all we can to help kick start the local economy, bearing in mind all the necessary safety factors of course.
I have suggested to the Leader of Devon County Council, Cllr John Hart, and the CEO of DCC, Phil Norrey that we should campaign in support of local business, with a “Made in Devon” or “Grown in Devon” or “Produced in Devon” campaign. I believe visitors appreciate goods displaying such signs and certainly as local residents we should be buying local, in support of local workers. IMO it wouldn’t matter if it was a box of fudge, a bag of potatoes or a packet of Christmas Cards ( it won’t be long now…) if it’s produced by local workers, who need a wage, let’s all do our bit to support them!
Given a choice between fish caught by Devon fishermen and fish landed anywhere else, or potatoes grown in Egypt or Starcross, I know which I will be buying !
So, please buy local, support the local shop, keep local people in employment. Let’s as far as possible and practical do what we can to help at this difficult time, when, sadly, I fear things are inevitably going to get worse before, hopefully, they eventually get better.
Well said. Meanwhile, how about TDC’s CEO reviewing purchasing arrangements at Forde House? From where do the council’s own supplies – catering, stationery IT equipment etc – originate? I’d be surprised if there weren’t some that could be switched to local businesses?
