The build up of traffic on the St Marychurch Road and Shaldon Road has increased of late and the problems getting out of Queensway at times, is nothing new. Part of the problem is drivers blocking the yellow box at the Pen Inn roundabout, thus preventing onward movement. It has happened to me twice in the last 3 days, and it is very frustrating. I have asked the police to take a look and see if enforcement action can be taken. I don’t expect a policeman or PCSO to stand directing traffic all day ( but I can remember when traffic police did do that…yes, I am that old!) but can CCTV not be used to identify and prosecute offenders? I believe if we started to enforce a bit more, traffic violations such as the one mentioned would soon decline, to everyone’s advantage. I am a strong believer in having laws enforced. What is the point in having them if they are simply and regularly ignored? No point at all.

Well said Gordon. Junction box stupidity is one of the most annoying, and also one of the most easy-to-detect motoring offences. I’m often delayed at the Pen Inn by idiots who simply don’t follow the most simple rule: DON’T ENTER THE BOX UNTIL YOUR EXIT IS CLEAR!
As the holiday season approaches, I’m dreading the arrival of selfish caravanners, who gaily drive into the boxes, apparently having forgotten the beast they’re towing behind them. As you say, with the roundabout constantly monitored by CCTV traffic controls, how about a few arrests?
