GREAT NEWS for MOORLAND VIEW

by admin on 9 February, 2017

I hesitate to announce good news in that I never want to disappoint or mislead anyone, and as we all know “the best laid plans….etc etc”. However, so many residents are asking, and as I am telling all who ask, I might as well share with both of my readers, that at long long last I have an undertaking that Moorland View ( the dreadful section at the Haytor end) is scheduled for major surgery, which of course is what is needed. I am sure many who either live on or need to travel that road will rejoice, as I certainly do.
This is the culmination of a lengthy campaign over many years, to get significant repairs to an increasingly damaged road.
The story is that last year a small pot of money was found ( less than £16,000) which I was told I could allocate for road repairs in Newton Abbot South. However, this was nowhere near enough to do a decent repair job on my number one priority, namely Moorland View. Consequently that pot of cash was spent on important but relatively superficial works elsewhere on Buckland. These are currently being done.
Now, another larger sum has been acquired, I am delighted to be able to say, and I am told Moorland View should be repaired, “by the end of April”. Let’s hope so, and that is why I started off with a caution. These sort of works are always weather dependant and I’ll finally rejoice only when I know the works started. Nevertheless, I am optimistic that tortuous journey along Moorland View is coming to an end. The Champagne is on ice!

That is great news. I’d like to congratulate Devon County Council for finally treating Buckland’s residents decently, and you for persevering so long in the face of criticism from residents like me, and stone-walling or dismissive arrogance from too many officers in the past (at least) 8 years. Thank you Gordon, and well-done DCC.
