SHALDON HILL WATER PROBLEM

by admin on 13 December, 2018

Water flows quite regularly in large quantities off land at the top of Shaldon Hill onto the road approximately next to the entrance to Centrax. It is often so much that I thought it was a burst water main, but it isn’t apparently as it turns out to be water simply flowing off adjacent land. I am concerned because while it isn’t a major problem now, it would be if and when it freezes.
I contacted the County Highways but they said, ” Not us, try South West Water.” So I rang SWW and was told, you guessed it, “Not us, try County Highways”. So, I contacted County Highways again and the upshot of all this back and forth is that the local gullys will be cleaned in the near future, hopefully before Christmas, and this should improve the situation. Here’s hoping it reduces significantly the water currently liable to flow across Shaldon Hill, as I am worried that as and when we have a frost ( and it can’t be long now) that will become an ice rink, with all the associated dangers for motorists, cyclists and other road users. Take care!
