A few weeks ago my fellow Devon County Councillor Jackie Hook and I, at a face to face meeting with local highways officers, pressed the case for the remarking of road markings around town.
I’m pleased to say many of these have now been repainted, and that is certainly welcome. However, some notable exceptions still exist, and some of the lines in and around Penn Inn leave much to be desired. I am told that these haven’t been done in the current financial year as they require road closures( for obvious safety reasons, which I fully accept) and will be commissioned in the new financial year. I can only assume therefore that the cash has been used up for this year for that particular budget heading, and we need to wait for the new financial allocation. Meanwhile, I suppose we are left to hope and pray no accidents occur in the area which could be the fault of poor line markings!
